CynogenMod 7.1.5 on my Milestone
It was time for another update from https://github.com/nadlabak/android/downloads.
It's so easy with OpenRecovery G.O.T.:
- Download
- Copy to OpenRecovery/updates using the USB connection.
- Reboot into Recovery, if you already have CyanogenMod.
- Run the update from Misc menu.
- Reboot
Android 2.3.7 on Milestone
It was just about time to update my Motorola Milestone to the latest CynogenMod at https://github.com/nadlabak/android/downloads, providing Android 2.3.7.
The steps I applied included
- the download of update-cm-7.1.0.7-Milestone-KANG-signed.zip from https://github.com/nadlabak/android/downloads,
- the transfer of that zip file to OpenRecovery/updates using USB connection,
- the reboot the device to G.O.T. OpenRecovery,
- the update using the zip file and
- the cleanup of the caches using the 2 options in OpenRecovery.
Android 2.3/CyanogenMod 7 for Milestone
Please find the final CM7 release at the usual place: https://github.com/nadlabak/android/downloads
Since power on my Milestone is down to 5%, I first have to wait for appropriate capacity of the battery before I can update my RC4 to the final release.
Done, my Milestone is now running CM7 and since I already did the RC4 installation before, it was easy:
- Putting the ZIP for CM7 in OpenRecovery/Updates.
- Restart Milestone into Recovery.
- Start OpenRecovery G.O.T. by applying update.zip.
- Apply the CM7 zip using the appropriate action of the Miscellaneous menu.
- Reboot and that's it.
Android 2.3 Milestone
Waiting for the upgrade to a newer post-2.1 Android by Motorola, I heard rumours about the Android 2.2 released recently, that were not very positive about the quality.
So I decided to get Android 2.3 (CyanogenMod) on the Milestone with the help of OpenRecovery G.O.T.
Since yesterday I have upgrade to CyanogenMod 7 RC4 (from RC3) on the Milestone with no problems so far. That way my 2nd phone, which is an iPhone 4 will never catch up with the Milestone... the iPhone is Apple's proprietary way to enforce Windows usage on PC hardware
.
Keep in my mind, that I am not responsible for your personal experience, i.e. if you brick your Milestone, it's your own risk, even if I provide some details about the procedure here.
Android 2.2 for Milestone/Droid
Yes, I am still waiting for the official release 2.2 for my Motorola Droid.
Perhaps the Motorola Update Tool will some day find the appropriate update... I promise to start my Windows VM regularly to check that.
